Be aware of your normal.
People who make a lot of money steal it from the poor, the planet, the third world, the future generation [choose option].
This unspoken belief was part of my family's value system. This way of thinking was the norm.
I'm not complaining. I had a wonderful childhood. I'm just saying: Be aware of what seems normal to you. The value system around you dictates it.
My family was always trying to help other people. I remember my father buying a multi-month travel pass for the son of a refugee family so that he could join my football club. This was normal, too.
As adults, we can decide which values to keep and which to discard. We can treat them like options on an à la carte menu.
Once we're done with our individual value system, we can look at the societal value system as a whole: What is society's "courant normal" that we don't agree with anymore? But also, which societal norms still hold up?
