Day 24'433

IT WAS NEVER ABOUT THE LOLLIPOPS

The biggest mistake in functional candy:
Expanding into new outcomes using the same brand.

Even if it's "physically" almost the same product. Even if it's just another lollipop.

Say your core product is Caffeine Lollipops.
Please don’t launch CBD Lollipops under the same brand.

That’s like Red Bull launching “Red Bull Relax – with Lavender Tea Extract.” It doesn’t matter if it's the same sparkling soda, the same can (...). The outcome is totally different.

And if you’re trying to build a brand that gives you "permission" to stretch across a wide range of functional promises? You’re just fooling yourself.
That’s not how brands work.

Consumers don’t remember form; they remember function. They associate you with a very narrow outcome.

“Lollipops that affect my mood” is too broad.
“Lollipops that keep me awake” is focused, clear, and valuable.

Want to expand your brand's product portfolio?

First: Think twice. Do you really need to do it?

If you go for it and you are the caffeine lollipop company then launch a caffeinated chewing gum, a focus chocolate, whatever you like. As long as the outcome stays consistent: an enjoyable treat that keeps you alert.

It was never about the lollipops. It was always about what the lollipops do for me.
