Is Europe “suicidal”?
It’s an uncomfortable question. But worth asking.
• Actual suicides are at historically high levels.
• Birth rates are collapsing. In large parts of Europe, we are far below replacement level. We are, quite literally, dying out.
• A growing part of society seems unwilling to decisively defend Western values such as civic and economic freedom, individual responsibility, and free markets.
• The family, the most basic nucleus of society, is increasingly undermined or dismissed as “politically right-wing” and therefore suspect.
• Our consumption patterns tell a similar story. Destructive for the planet. Destructive for our bodies. Optimized for short-term comfort rather than long-term life.
Civilizations do not collapse only from external pressure. Often, they erode from within when they stop believing in themselves.
For 2026, my wish is simple and radical again: Policies and individuals that say yes to a strong Europe with ambition, confidence, and dreams for the future.
Rooted in the best of our traditions.
History is not prewritten.
