This wouldn’t be SMART.
The myth about “brand permission.”
I mostly hear it from founders:
“We have brand permission to launch XYZ.”
As if permission were a legal or trademark question.
It’s not.
The only one who gives a brand permission to extend a product line is the consumer. And being one myself, I can tell you: our attention span is short, and it’s not getting any longer.
Strong brands own max a few words:
SMART?
Small city car. Two seats. Compact.
Not a heavy-duty pickup truck.
The same is true in Sweets & Snacks:
Just because you can launch a high-protein line extension… doesn’t mean consumers will ever associate your brand with it.
Brand permission is earned, never assumed.
